Presentación

Stimulating young minds and watching pupils grow in confidence and achieve their full potential – that’s what secondary education is all about.

Our PGCE Master’s programme closely interweaves school and university-based training. Over 38 weeks, you’ll spend at least 120 days (minimum 24 weeks) on school placement and 60 study days in structured learning at UEA.

Our course will provide you with the opportunity to research and evaluate the latest thinking in good teaching practice, helping you understand the ways pupils learn. It will enable you to develop your own strategies to make teaching physical education a satisfying, engaging, and fun experience.

You’ll graduate ready to teach high quality, fully inclusive physical education. And you’ll be able to give your pupils the skills and confidence to take part in physical activity both in and out of school.

Requisitos

Degree Subject Physical Education or a related subject.
Degree Classification 2:1 or above.

DEGREE REQUIREMENTS
Applicants are required to have achieved a degree or its equivalent* by the beginning of the PGCE programme in September in physical education, sports science or sports studies. As a general guideline, approximately 50 per cent of the degree should be relevant to the subject you will teach.

STUDENTS FOR WHOM ENGLISH IS A FOREIGN LANGUAGE
We welcome applications from students whose first language is not English. To ensure such students benefit from postgraduate study, we require evidence of proficiency in English. Our usual entry requirements are as follows:

IELTS: 6.5 (minimum 6.0 in all components)
PTE (Pearson): 62 (minimum 55 in all components)
Test dates should be within two years of the course start date. Other tests such as the Cambridge Certificate of Advanced English are also accepted by the university. Please check with the Admissions Office for further details including the scores or grades required.

Programa

Competition for places on the course is tough. We are looking for high quality applicants with a good honours degree (minimum 2:1) in physical education, sports science or sports studies related degrees, which should include some modules based on education, pedagogy or coaching. You must also be able to demonstrate a working knowledge of the National Curriculum for physical education. You should have sporting knowledge, expertise and personal competence across a range of the main activities in the physical education curriculum. You can show this through personal performance at a high level, a portfolio of National Governing Body Awards or through time spent volunteering or working in a secondary physical education department. You will also need a valid lifesaving qualification prior to embarking on the PGCE programme.

Your passion should be to inspire young people, not just to do well at school, but to keep engaged in physical activity for the rest of their lives.

Your study on the programme will combine practice and theory in curriculum and professional development sessions. You will work closely with UEA tutors and mentors in your placement schools.

You will graduate as a confident, reflective teacher of high-quality physical education. Your time on the course will be devoted to exploring the pedagogy of teaching the full range of activity areas that form the National Curriculum for physical education. Your understanding of the many different qualifications available to pupils will keep growing throughout the course. You will learn to guide pupils through GCSE, A level Physical Education and vocational qualifications, including leadership awards in the physical education curriculum. When you´re finished, you will enter the workforce ready to teach high quality, inclusive physical education. You will give pupils the skills and confidence to take part in physical activity both in and out of school.

A distinctive feature of the course is the inclusion of the British Gymnastics Secondary Teachers Award and the Rugby Football Union Rugby in Secondary Schools course. In addition, you can take advantage of our subject enhancement opportunities. You’ll have the chance to strengthen your subject knowledge and Curriculum Vitae through national qualifications in the following activities:

Lawn Tennis Association Secondary Teachers Award
Badminton England Secondary Teachers Award
Rounders England Teachers Award
British Gymnastics Trampolining Teachers Award
England Basketball Teachers Award
England Basketball Level 1 Refereeing and Level 1 Table Officiating
England Handball Secondary Teachers Award.
In line with the professional expectations associated with the PGCE course, you will wear the UEA physical education kit whenever you’re training at the University, and in your placement school.
