The PGCert Primary Care Development course will provide those with management roles in primary care the opportunity to:
- undertake a bespoke programme of study
- enhance their communication and leadership skills
- develop management skills
- gain greater understanding of the key external and internal policy drivers
- explore the literature related to management, leadership and partnership working
The PGCert Primary Care Development course would interest those with management roles in GP practice who want to:
understand and develop their practice in a changing policy and practice context
develop their leadership and management knowledge and skills
develop their management and partnership working and knowledge
develop their reflective practice and critical thinking skills
develop skills to become GP practice managers if they currently are in assistant role
Applicants to the course will be those with management roles in a GP practice setting who:
Normally possess an undergraduate 2.2 degree or its equivalent and evidence of recent academic study
Candidates with non-standard entry requirements are warmly welcomed and may be admitted on the basis of relevant work experience or professional qualification with requisite approval. Two years relevant employment experience in local authorities, health, private and voluntary organisations and industry will be considered relevant.
The PGCert Primary Care Development course includes one taught module and one work-based learning module. The main themes explored across the programme include:

Employment law changes including annual leave legal entitlements, employers versus employee rights, sick leave, bereavement leave, disciplinary action, managing poor performance, and capability assessments
Financial and pensions updates of NHS and Government
