The Careers Education qualification has been specifically designed to give applicants the competence and confidence to lead and manage careers education programmes in schools and colleges.
This course has been developed to improve the provision of careers education, information and advice within your organisation and raise pupils levels of attainment. The PG Cert in Careers Education offers a new career progression route for teachers and support staff from non-teaching backgrounds, wishing to develop their expertise in careers education.
Careers Education provides a means of developing individuals´ knowledge, understanding and experience of opportunities in education, training and employment and the skills necessary to make informed decisions. Effective careers education supports career guidance by providing some of the underpinning knowledge and understanding helpful to making career choices. To apply for a Taught Masters postgraduate course at LSBU you need one of the following:
- IELTS 6.5 or TOEFL 580 (Paper) or 237 (Computer) or 90 (Internet)
- Licenciado/Título de Ingeniero/Título de Arquitecto, average 6.0-6.9 (old grading system), or 1.5 in new grading system
For Postgraduate Diploma and Masters courses the normal entry qualification is an Honours degree or equivalent. For some Postgraduate Diplomas alternative qualifications are accepted along with relevant work experience. The University considers each application on its merits and is prepared to admit candidates who can demonstrate they have reached the normal entry requirements on the basis of prior experiential learning.
The programme is comprised of 2 core modules and 1 optional module

•Career Theory in action
One Optional Module from:
•Introduction to career guidance practice

•Working in Partnership and community or Accessing the World of work: LMI and Employability
•Applying to Higher Education
•Research in Health and Social Care
Each module is structured over a 13 week period and be studied separately or concurrently. The programme should be completed within 3 years and can be completed within a shorter period.
