Full-time - MSc/PgDip: 1 Year; PgCert: 1 semester; Part-time - MSc: 3 years; PgDip: 2 years; PgCert: 1 year
This is an advanced postgraduate course specialising in structural engineering covering advanced structural analysis and design, structural computing simulation and also offering units linked with steel, concrete, timber and other structural designs. It will also provide you with knowledge to design structures under dynamic and earthquake conditions.
The units taught focus on learning advanced methods and techniques while developing analytical skills across a range of structural engineering topics.
Two units, Finite Elements and Stress Analysis and Advanced Computing Structural Simulation, focus on learning advanced computing methods and commercial computing software for structures modelling and simulation.
Advanced Structural Analysis and Design and the Masonry and Timber Engineering units will cover advanced structural theory and designing traditional structures such as steel, concrete, masonry and timbers.
To apply for a Taught Masters postgraduate course at LSBU you need one of the following:
- IELTS 6.5 or TOEFL 580 (Paper) or 237 (Computer) or 90 (Internet)
- Licenciado/Título de Ingeniero/Título de Arquitecto, average 6.0-6.9 (old grading system), or 1.5 in new grading system
For Postgraduate Diploma and Masters courses the normal entry qualification is an Honours degree or equivalent. For some Postgraduate Diplomas alternative qualifications are accepted along with relevant work experience. The University considers each application on its merits and is prepared to admit candidates who can demonstrate they have reached the normal entry requirements on the basis of prior experiential learning.
