Presentación

This unique programme encompasses the central functions of corporate, senior and operational management including financial management, governance, corporate strategy, strategic marketing and leadership.
The specificity of sport, with its high media coverage and numerous stakeholders, requires managers to have uniquely honed business skills and an in-depth knowledge of the principles of sports management. The MA in Sport Management has therefore been developed for those with aspirations towards senior or line management positions within the core functional departments of the sports management industry.
At UCFB we bridge the gap between academia and business. Students on our taught postgraduate programmes have significantly more contact time than those at traditional higher education institutions. In parallel to the traditional academic curriculum runs the Complementary CurriculumTM; a journey of professional and personal development through learning and knowledge enhancement activities.

Requisitos

You will have a Bachelor’s degree with 2:1 classification or an international equivalent. International students that require an IELTS must have an overall IELTS score of 6.5 (minimum of 6.0 in Writing, Speaking, Reading and Listening, or recognised equivalent). Relevant academic experience in business, marketing or sport is desirable.
Applicants should note that possession of the minimum entry criteria does not in itself guarantee admission.

Programa

Leadership and Management*
Through this module you will understand and evaluate your leadership and management skills and consequent behaviours. This will enable you to develop the ability to self-analyse and improve your organisational leadership. Leadership is a prerequisite for postgraduate students wishing to elevate their career in football or sports business management. You will appraise managerial and leadership theory and to develop your own style pertinent to a career as a business manager.

Managing People in Sport Organisations*
The management of consumer orientated sports organisations is heavily reliant on the service and quality of delivery to each consumer. This module examines organisational theory in relation to the operational and human resource issues faced by managers of sport organisations. It will introduce you to concepts of service delivery and quality that modern sports business managers are required to implement in order to create and maintain high levels of customer satisfaction.

This module imparts an understanding of corporate strategy and how it can be applied to the context of international sports management. It reviews the strategies often applied by international governing bodies, competition organisers, charitable organisations and clubs. You will formulate and implement corporate strategies to fit a variety of business environments and situations. You will integrate theoretical concepts with practical management tools to undertake strategic analyses.

International Financial Management*
You will examine the impact on international football and other sports organisations when trying to establish themselves and develop growth within the international marketplace. The module will cover the conceptual and regulatory framework for financial reporting, financial statements, financial management in the business environment and the methods used in making short and long term financial decisions. You will review international accounting requirements and assess the risks faced when carrying out trade in different currencies. The methods employed to reduce financial risk and maximise benefits will be applied in the sessions.

This module will cover a range of marketing strategies used across various international sports organisations to include marketing orientation; the marketing process; marketing planning and the marketing environment. You will develop an understanding of the full range of marketing tools and techniques available, and how to integrate them to plan and implement successful marketing programmes. The module will also address communication and promotional mix strategies, pricing strategy and approaches.

Research Methods*
You will gain an in-depth knowledge of the stages of the research process from literature review through to presentation of findings. Research is a growing area of sports management with practitioners increasingly being asked to critically evaluate organisations.
