The goal of bioinformatics is to understand complex biological data and processes by developing and applying advanced computational techniques such as data mining and machine learning, biostatistics, molecular and systems modelling, and visualisation.
This stream will provide students with a broad education in bioinformatics and significant experience in a specific area of bioinformatics. Students will have the ability to undertake independent research in bioinformatics with the potential to progress to a PhD degree.
Bachelor degree with a major in an appropriate discipline with at least an H3 (65%) average in the major or equivalent.
Appropriate disciplines include:
biology and biomedicine;
mathematics and statistics;
computer science
Students must also have completed MAST10005 Calculus 1 or equivalent.
