Presentación

The MSc in Project Management Course brings together components from both the School of Computing & Mathematics and the Keele Management School. A successful project manager balances the conflicting goals of resource usage, quality of product, time to market and customer satisfaction. The programme is intended to provide the student with the technical and process skills to undertake the role of a project manager in the modern business environment.

The course will cover all the basic project management areas as defined in the Project Management Book of Knowledge and in addition will provide the soft skills required in team building and people management.

Requisitos

MSc applicants are expected to hold at least a Second Class Honours Degree (or overseas equivalent), or to have gained appropriate professional qualifications and work experience. Overseas applicants will also need to have an English Language qualification IELTS 6.5, or hold a previous degree from a UK university.

For overseas students who do not meet all direct entry requirements, we offer the opportunity to take an intensive Business or Computing Pre-Masters programme leading to the MSc.

Programa

The following indicates the range of modules that may be offered and may be subject to change:

Core Modules

Accounting for Decision Making: The module introduces key concepts and techniques in Financial Accounting, Management Accounting, and Financial Management. The module will familiarise students with the structure of company accounts and demonstrate the procedures and techniques used in assessing that information for managers. The module will further explain how use of structured accounting information can enhance decision-making within a company in relation to operation and organisation, costing and new project evaluation, financing, and strategic development.

Marketing and Operations Management: This module explores marketing and operations concepts and issues in depth and provides an understanding of the marketing mix, strategies for new products and branding, and the strategic aspects of marketing.

People and Organisations: This module is intended to encourage independent and critical thought on how the terms ‘people’ and ‘organisation’ are understood, related and managed.

Project Scope and Portfolio Management: This module incorporates scope management and integration management, which assess the scale of the project, its component parts and processes, and their integration in order to achieve project goals. It will also consider how these aspects impact on the organisation as a whole and the overall delivery of the full portfolio of projects to be undertaken by the organisation.

Problem Solving Skills for Consultants: This module explores skills such as project management, communication and team working and building. It also provides knowledge of ethical, legal and social issues related to the development and deployment of Information Technology.

Metrics Estimation, Analysis and Teams: This module provides students with the requisite skills and knowledge in the collection and use of metrics and their subsequent analysis for either project monitoring or process improvement.

Project Management Distributed Group Project (30 credits): This module involves the students as part of a small project team undertaking the research and project management needed in producing a bid response for an identified project scenario. The students will all have an opportunity to apply the skills they have learnt across the full spectrum of modules, as the bid response will require the production of plans, estimates, scooping documents, risk and quality plans and the selection of appropriate staff to populate the project plan.
