Presentación

The course offers two routes:

- Route 1: for qualified nutritional therapists who are already working in clinical practice for a minimum equivalent to one day per week.

and

- Route 2: for graduates with training in nutrition who do not currently have the skills required for clinical practice, but who wish to train as nutritional therapy practitioners. Students on this pathway will take the Nutritional Therapy Practice module in place of the Researching Contemporary Issues in Complementary Medicine module. (See Course Content below). This route is available as a part-time programme only over a minimum of two years.

Requisitos

You will need to be a registered and insured practitioner, and will be expected to hold either a good BSc Honours degree in your relevant discipline, an equivalent professional qualification and associated work experience, or a qualification deemed suitable by the course team, including relevant overseas qualifications. Where equivalence is accepted, the length, depth and content of the courses followed, and the orientation of the syllabus, will be considered. You will need the higher education skills required for postgraduate level study, including evidence of research, critiquing and skills in academic writing, IT, reflective practice and communication together with a collaborative and integrated approach to working. If your first language is not English you should have an IELTS score of at least 6.5 (with the written component at a minimum of 6.5) (or equivalent).

Objetivos

This course aims to develop scholar practitioners of nutritional therapy who can work with individuals and groups in autonomous clinical and community settings. Grounded in functional medicine principles, nutritional therapy draws on current and emerging research to inform assessment methods and prescriptions for diet, nutraceuticals and lifestyle change to manage patients’ health concerns and promote optimal health through all life stages.

In addition, the course enables you to develop professionally and personally as a leader in research, clinical governance and policy within the nutritional therapy profession, while developing and advancing your own professional practice. You will be able to present clinical and theoretical concepts in an inter-professional forum that fosters critical debate, original and independent thinking, peer mentoring and supervision and reflexivity.
