Medical ultrasound is a rapidly developing field that offers strong and varied employment opportunities within Australia and in many international locations.
Curtin’s Master of Medical Sonography is Western Australia’s only postgraduate qualification in ultrasound. You will learn how to use high definition ultrasound imaging equipment and develop the knowledge, interpersonal skills, evidence-based research proficiency and real-world expertise that can help you succeed in the modern medical sonography workplace.
This course is offered part-time, completely off-campus. It has strong links with industry and is professionally recognised by the Australasian Sonographer Accreditation Registry (ASAR).
After two years of part-time study, you may choose to graduate with a Graduate Diploma in Medical Sonography. To receive the Master of Medical Sonography you will complete a research project in your final year.
Australian & NZ Students
You will need a recognised bachelor degree in medical imaging science from a recognised tertiary institution.
Applications from other relevant health science professionals will be reviewed on an individual basis. You will need to demonstrate evidence of tertiary-level human biology and psychology studies as well as provide referees for patientbased clinical experience.

A sonographer conducts dynamic diagnostic examinations with the use of high definition ultrasound imaging equipment covering a wide range of clinical areas. These include obstetrics and gynaecology, abdominal, vascular, musculo-skeletal, paediatrics, breast and the superficial glands.
