Presentación

Whether it’s making a mobile phone secure, helping an endangered species survive, or analysing a successful business, mathematics is key. Almost all areas of human activity or advanced technologies need mathematics, so the demand for mathematicians continues to grow.

This degree will give you a solid grounding in the methods of modern applied mathematics, and bring out the intrinsic beauty of mathematical ideas.

You’ll be taught by active researchers, which ensures you are exposed to current problems, methodologies and industry-standard techniques and software. You’ll become an expert in logical thinking and refined problem-solving, skills that employers in many fields value highly.

This course is an enhanced undergraduate degree lasting four years (or five with an optional year in industry) that combines modules from the BSc (Hons) Mathematics degree with Masters level material and exposes you to a greater volume of mathematics and at a greater depth compared to the three year BSc (Hons) Mathematics degree.

Requisitos

Titulo de Bachillerato or the Selectividad with an average mark of 6.
Curso de Orientación Universitaria (COU) with an average mark of 6.
Técnico Especialista (Formación Profesional – segundo grado).
Ingeniero Técnico (from Escuela de Ingeniero Técnico).
Diplomado / Diplomatura.
English language qualifications:

GCSE pass in English at Grade C or above
IELTS with an average overall score of 6.0 with at least 5.5 in each component
TOEFL IBT minimum score for Undergraduate of 80 IBT
Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE): exams taken from January 2015 – overall score of 169 with at least 162 in each component ; exams taken before January 2015 – Grade C and no less than borderline in each skill
Trinity College English Language qualifications: ISE II Distinction or ISE III Pass for undergraduate courses
City and Guild’s IESOL/ISESOL tests, in some cases, we may also be able to accept the communicator level (B2)
Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE Academic) with a minimum of 51 points in each element for the majority of undergraduate programmes
Don’t worry if you do not meet these requirements, we run a number of courses to prepare you for academic studies

Programa

The first three years are in common with the BSc (Hons) Mathematics degree, meaning you will be exposed to a broad range of mathematics during your first year before specialising during the second and third years in those areas of mathematics you find most interesting.

In the fourth year of the MMath degree you can study further modules that are closely related to the research interests of staff and are in areas that many of our recent graduates have found employment. You can also undertake a large project under the close guidance of a lecturer, further exposing you to current mathematical techniques and concepts. This means you will stand out from the crowd when making job applications.
