The MA Leadership and Management (PcET) course is suitable for students from a number of PcET backgrounds.It is particularly relevant if you work in the public sector. It offers an opportunity to analyse up-to-date trends, changes and experiences in the PcET sector and the many debates associated with it.
The MA Leadership and Management (PcET) course is an interesting programme, and suitable for students from a number of PcET backgrounds. The post-compulsory sector of education is sometimes referred to as the Learning and Skills Sector, or the Lifelong Learning sector. It has been the focus of much policy activity and intervention in recent years. The several names for the post-compulsory sector reflect its varied and dynamic nature, and while it is often defined as all provision available after the age of 16 it also, increasingly, is seen to include some 14+ provision.

English language qualifications:
GCSE pass in English at Grade C or above
IELTS with an average overall score 6.5 with at least a 5.5 in each component
TOEFL IBT minimum score 88
Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE): exams taken from January 2015 – overall score of 176 with at least 162 in each component; exams taken before January 2015 – Grade C and no less than borderline in each skill
Trinity College English Language qualifications: ISE III Pass for postgraduate taught courses and research applications
City and Guild’s IESOL/ISESOL tests at expert and mastery levels (C2 and C1) for the majority of postgraduate programmes
Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE Academic) with a minimum of 67 points in each elemen

In common with all of the MA Education programmes, students must take the core module Research Methodology. This module will equip you to carry out small scale education enquiry ethically and effectively. In addition, to achieve the MA Leadership and Management in Post-compulsory Education and Training (PcET) you will study three further modules:
Values, purposes and policies in PcET (compulsory/core module)
The concentration will be on Wales but, where appropriate, the UK, Europe and the wider world will form part of the study. You will critically examine the background to, and reasons for, policy initiatives, which typically involve both clear values and principles and more pragmatic considerations. The relationship between policy aspirations and aims and achievements in practice will also be examined – to what extent do initiatives achieve their intended goals?
Managing, Teaching, Learning and Assessment
The module takes you through a comparison of models and claims about learning, teaching and assessment. Evidence of practice, drawing on current research in the sector in Wales and elsewhere in the UK, will be used for discussion. Students will relate the perspectives and models to their own area of practice.
Independent study or another relevant, complementary module from the MA programme (Mentoring: Principles and Practice is recommended or alternatively Developing People in Organisations).
Upon successful completion of the above taught element, you will progress to:
Research of a topic related to current practices or pending change/policy in PcET. A supervisor will be allocated to you in order to guide and support you through the dissertation process.
Learning and teaching methods
The course is delivered via a series of modules and a final dissertation is required.
Most students following the part-time programme spend two years on the taught modules (typically one evening per week) and undertake their dissertation in their third year. Participants are, however, allowed to take a maximum of five years to complete the whole programme.
A Masters degree is required for professional advancement in numerous occupations, and is widely seen as evidence of a successful commitment to high level professional development. An MA award demonstrates that you have developed advanced level skills in analysis, evaluation and research
