Countries all around the globe are faced with a myriad of environmental problems resulting from a variety of issues including urbanisation, population rises, climate change and pollution events. Mitigating against these risks requires skills, competence and knowledge to be able to work effectively at a local, national and global level.
This Master´s level course provides an integrated and coherent programme covering a range of aspects pertinent to environmental management, within a global context. The materials have been designed with a strong vocational and industry focus to enable real world experiences, thereby enabling our graduates to enter a range of jobs from policy development to practice. It has been specifically designed to enable you to understand these key issues, and develop policies and initiatives that will build resilience amongst individuals and communities worldwide.


Candidates entering these courses will normally be expected have gained at least a second class honours degree in a relevant discipline such as ecology, environmental science, geography or geology. Other qualifications will be considered as will applications from candidates with relevant work experience. Applicants for whom English is not their first language will need to demonstrate that they meet the minimum English language requirement of IELTS 6.5 (or equivalent).

Typical modules
Climate Change and Risk Management
Extends understanding of the climatic process, the concept of risk, along with developing familiarity with the susceptibility, vulnerability and adaptability of systems to climate change.
International Environmental Management Policy and Control
Examines the legal rules and principles governing the regulation of the global environment. You will appraise the regulatory options and mechanisms available to policy makers for monitoring, controlling and enforcing environmental management practices. The module will also explore the complex social, economic and political contexts in which international environmental law exists using legal and non-legal materials as examples.
International Wastes Management
Assesses the environmental impact and economics of current waste disposal practices in urban areas, the system deficiencies that exist as well as the steps that need to be taken to correct solid wastes management practices in both developed and developing countries using ´best practice´ examples adopted around the world.​​
Geo-informatics for Environmental Management
Enables you to explore the concepts of GIS, remote sensing and mapping technology within a case study and evaluate how such systems allow real time and repetitive data to be collected and present to decision and policy makers in society.
Implementing Sustainability
You will evaluate the economic, social and environmental objectives of society to ensure that developments meet the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations.
Pollution Abatement Technologies
You will assess the environmental, economic and social impacts of a range of abatement technologies and evaluate suitable approaches for a range of contexts.

Salidas profesionales

Successful graduates will be able to develop careers in specialist environmental management, pollution control, land and natural resource management or in environmental education. Graduates have been successful in gaining technical and managerial posts within government agencies, environmental consultancies and major national and international companies. Graduates are also encouraged to become Chartered Environmentalists.
