Part-time - PGDip 24 months months; Part-time - MSc 32 months including dissertation
Students studying for the MSc HRM will be required to complete the 4 core units in your first year. In your second year you will take Research Methods plus one core unit and two electives. Each year of the programme features a residential weekend as an integral part of the overall course. The dissertation gives you the opportunity to link theory with practice within an organisational context. It involves the identification and refinement of an HR problem, undertaking an in-depth literature review, the collection of primary data, and the analysis and evaluation of this data so as to produce a set of implementable and/or secondary recommendations.
To apply for a Taught Masters postgraduate course at LSBU you need one of the following:
- IELTS 6.5 or TOEFL 580 (Paper) or 237 (Computer) or 90 (Internet)
- Licenciado/Título de Ingeniero/Título de Arquitecto, average 6.0-6.9 (old grading system), or 1.5 in new grading system
For Postgraduate Diploma and Masters courses the normal entry qualification is an Honours degree or equivalent. For some Postgraduate Diplomas alternative qualifications are accepted along with relevant work experience. The University considers each application on its merits and is prepared to admit candidates who can demonstrate they have reached the normal entry requirements on the basis of prior experiential learning.
Applicants for this course must also meet the following additional entry requirements.
You will require two years postgraduate work experience and current employment in a HR or HR related role (recruitment, training and development, compensation and benefits etc). We will also consider applicants who are working in a management role with responsibilities for staff management.
If you lack the required academic qualifications but meet the work experience requirements above you are also eligible to apply as part of the application process you will be asked to complete a written assessment based on a work-related HR issue which will be assessed by the Course Admissions team.
The MSc HRM course aims to develop the professional capability of HRM practitioners through developing a range of skills, knowledge and understanding in Leadership and HR Management, including people management and development, business understanding, professional and ethical behaviour, analytical and intuitive/creative thinking, customer focus, strategic thinking and communication, to a level where a significant professional contribution to the management of HRM can be made in an organisation or sector.

The taught units are assessed by a mixture of individual assignments, group presentations and by examination at the end of some units.
The programme is designed for professionals or line managers who are working in the field of Human Resource Management or Development. Students who have successfully completed the course have found it has enabled them to take on additional responsibilities and/ or move onto more senior positions within the HR or Management field.
