Information Systems play a strategic role in global business and the world economy.

An enterprise information system is generally any kind of computing system that offers a quality service dealing with large volumes of data, supporting operations and processes such as accounting, finance, human resources, inventory control, manufacturing, marketing, sales, distribution, and resource planning. Advanced enterprise information systems provide linkages with other internal enterprise information systems as well as with customers, business partners, and suppliers.


First degree with a minimum of a 2:2 UK Honours degree or equivalent


This Masters degree will give you the capability to define, design and deploy robust and secure information system architectures for businesses.

You will learn about the latest developments in the field, and how these insights can be used to achieve a company’s general strategy or even drive the strategy. Special attention is paid to the design of new types of organizations and virtual cooperation enabled through the Internet.


Enterprise Information Systems (20 credits)

Enterprise Information Systems (EIS) have an important strategic impact on global business and the world economy. An enterprise information system is generally any kind of computing system that offering high quality of service, dealing with large volumes of data, supporting some large organizations´ operations and processes.

This unit is designed to provide a general introduction to enterprise information systems, specific enterprise information systems types.

Business Intelligence (20 credits)
A vast amount of knowledge about a company’s customers is collected and stored in databases, which is of immense value if properly analysed.

This unit will explore data preparation and data mining techniques to supply Business Intelligence (BI) to non-technical and managerial staff, and the processes for successful BI implementation and use in alignment with business strategies.

Mobile, Wireless and Pervasive Technology (20 credits)
A key issue facing enterprises today is how to utilise mobile and pervasive technologies to ensure businesses operate effectively and recognise opportunities.

This unit will involve the tools and techniques you should use to critically analyse and evaluate designs for mobile and pervasive technology solutions.

Process Oriented Requirements Engineering (20 credits)
A critical need for all organisations is to have the right IT systems to support business processes.

In this unit you will learn how to analyse business processes effectively and evaluate, select, and produce appropriate business process models or problem domains. You will then be able to research, match requirements and inform specifications.

Web Systems (20 credits)
Web systems play an increasingly important role within the business context.

An important aspect of this unit is the development of AJAX front-ends for enterprise information systems. You will explore the design of web applications using web services and REST to interact with an underlying information system.

Research Methods & Professional Issues (20 credits)
Research requires a structured and disciplined approach at all stages.

We will help you to develop key research skills in many areas from project proposals and planning to critical analysis of research findings, academic writing, and dissemination. Ensuring you give due consideration to professional standards and ethical issues in research.

Research Project (60 credits)
The Research Project provides you with an opportunity to undertake a significant piece of self-managed research in a relevant area of particular interest. Your project will give you the opportunity to engage with a complex, real-world problem.

Optional industrial placement
