f you are a practitioner in education and would like to improve your professional expertise, this course has been developed for you. Our course allows you to gain credits from a range of modules, which result in the award of an MA Education.
This course has also been designed with a flexible approach in order to meet your individual and workplace needs. Most modules are delivered on campus or in educational locations, and supported by the University´s virtual learning environment.
We will provide you with a range of modules to choose from to allow you to create a personally meaningful course suited to your own developmental interests.
MA Education will provide you with some stimulating ideas to take back into your workplace, food for thought about your practice, and opportunities to enhance your own students´ learning.
You’ll usually need an undergraduate degree or an equivalent qualification and a role within education that will allow you to complete the work based assignments. Even if you don’t have these entry requirements it is worth contacting us if you have relevant professional experience as we may be able to consider your application.
As a part-time student, your studying will normally take place over three academic years. Each academic year is comprised of three terms and students are offered to study one module each term. Masterly Academic Practice, Evidence Based Practice, and Independent Study, are all core modules. Below we have outlined a typical structure of study to give you an idea of where these modules fit in, whether you are pursuing the straight MA Education, or specialising in a pathway route:
As this is a flexible course, there are several exit points if you don´t wish to complete to Masters stage. You will be awarded the following depending on how many modules you complete:
Postgraduate Certificate of Achievement (20 credits)
Postgraduate Certificate of Achievement in Education (40 credits)
Postgraduate Certificate (60 credits)
Postgraduate Diploma (120 credits)
MA (180 credits)
This course will help you to open doors and enhance your chosen career whether your educational setting is in Early Years, Primary or Secondary, Further or Higher Education. Or you can consider the winder educational context of, for example, museums, community learning, work based learning, and Local Authority.
Upon completing this course, you have the option to progress to further study, on courses such as EdD, MPhil or PhD here at the University of Derby.
