MA Counselling Children and Young People is one of the only Masters courses of its kind. It offers a unique blend of knowledge and skills practice, and provides a pathway to many exciting opportunities within the field of therapeutic work with young people.
The MA is a two-year course, made up of one year’s training on the Postgraduate Diploma Counselling Children and Young People plus one year completing the Masters research and dissertation stage. On completion of the USW Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling Children and Young People you may choose to exit the programme with your Diploma, or you can carry on to complete the MA by undertaking a research project and writing it up in the form of a dissertation. If you already have a Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling Children and Young People, you can apply to join the Masters research and dissertation stage directly.
Licenciado/Título de Ingeniero/Título de Arquitecto with an average of 6.0-6.9, Aprobado or above
English language qualifications:
GCSE pass in English at Grade C or above
IELTS with an average overall score 6.5 with at least a 5.5 in each component
TOEFL IBT minimum score 88
Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE): exams taken from January 2015 – overall score of 176 with at least 162 in each component; exams taken before January 2015 – Grade C and no less than borderline in each skill
Trinity College English Language qualifications: ISE III Pass for postgraduate taught courses and research applications
City and Guild’s IESOL/ISESOL tests at expert and mastery levels (C2 and C1) for the majority of postgraduate programmes
Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE Academic) with a minimum of 67 points in each elemen
Don’t worry if you do not meet these requirements, we run a number of courses to prepare you for academic studies.
Following the successful completion of the Postgraduate Diploma Counselling Children and Young People, you will have the opportunity to research and write a 20,000 word dissertation on a topic relating to counselling children and young people.
This course will enable you to become part of a new generation of professionals working within schools and other formal and informal youth settings.
On completion of the Masters, there may also be opportunities for you to progress into further study via a PhD route on application, both at the University of South Wales and other UK Universities.
