This specialist course allows you to develop your skills and experience in the use of new and emerging technologies. We utilise our state of the art facilities to ensure that you receive your training in the use of these technologies within a variety of settings. You will be able to pursue a particular passion during your research dissertation enabling you to tailor your programme to your own interests.
Applicants will normally hold a recognised first or second class honours degree from a UK university or international equivalent in a relevant subject. It is assumed that students will have a working knowledge of computers and networks, it is also essential that they have practical hands on experience of at least one programming language. Applicants for whom English is not their first language will need to demonstrate that they meet the minimum English language requirement of IELTS 6.5 (or equivalent).
This programme is a collaboration between the Department of Computing and Immersive Technologies and the Department of Engineering at the University of Northampton. Consequently, you will have the opportunity to work with a diverse range of industrial partners. The theoretical basis of this course is reinforced by strong practical elements as well as close ties with industrial partners thus allowing you to develop the skills and experience necessary to succeed in your chosen career.
All modules are 20 credit modules except for the dissertation which is a 60 credit module. An MSc is awarded on successful completion of 180 credits (six 20 credit modules and one 60 credit dissertation module).

This specialist postgraduate course allows you to pursue an area of particular interest utilising our recently upgraded facilities. We enrol small cohorts of students to ensure that you receive personalised care that will enable you to develop your skills and enhance your knowledge. We have developed this course to be studied around other commitments and you may only need to attend the University for two days per week.
Provides you with the opportunity to learn appropriate research techniques in order to carry out independent, relevant and in-depth research in a topic of specific interest.
Provides a comprehensive understanding of the principles of Virtual Environments Technology. You will design virtual environment solutions through the integration of standard components.
Improves your awareness of programming, particularly focusing on client side java applets. You will use your programming skills to produce complex 2D and 3D graphics applications for a range of different situations.
This module focuses on creating client and server side software as well as web applications for the World Wide Web. It concentrates on the technologies used to allow such software to be designed, implemented and deployed.
Mobile Device Software Development
This module focuses on creating software for mobile computing devices. It concentrates on the necessary technologies used to allow such devices to communicate and how to develop software to allow them to do so.
The increasing use of 2D and 3D graphics in a variety of sectors has led to the computing discipline growing greatly over the last few years. Consequently, graduates from this course have excellent employment options and are able to enter a huge range of sectors depending on their interests and career aspirations.
