The Master’s programme in Chemistry aims to let students understand, design and control the functioning of molecules and materials. The Master´s programme in Chemistry offers you fives specialisations: Chemistry for Life, Molecular Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, Science in Society and Science, Management and Innovation. The programmes are closely associated with the research Institute for Molecules and Materials (IMM). The goal is to explore new roads proceeding from synthesis and growth to design and architecture of molecular constructs and materials with specific, desired properties.
The Master´s in Chemistry is taught at the Science faculty. It has a course load of 120 EC* (2 years). The Master´s programme in Chemistry aims at specialisation (major) in one of the following fields:
•Applied Materials Science
•Bio Organic Chemistry
•Chemical biology and Medicinal Chemistry
•Molecular and Biophysics
•Molecular and Laser Physics
•Molecular Pharmacology and Toxicology
•Physical Organic Chemistry
•Scanning Probe Microscopy
•Solid State Chemistry
•Solid State NMR
•Synthetic Organic Chemistry
In addition, students may ask permission of the Examination Board for other specialisations that are part of the Research Institute for Molecules and Materials. Students may at any time follow more courses than the 120 EC required to obtain the Masters degree.
Successful completion of the Masters programme allows admission to a PhD programme.
The department where the research project of the Major is done, is allowed to ask 6 ec mandatory courses to be done in the Bachelor´s programme.
In the optional programme of the Minor second and third year Bachelor university courses of any programme are allowed. Minor can also be a research traineeships at Radboud University, in industry or at a university in the Netherlands or abroad.
6 EC free choice: these may also be first year Bachelor university courses of any programme.
All specialisations of this Master’s programme are an excellent preparation for a career in research, either at a university, at an institute or at a company. However, many of our students also end up in business or government positions. As the Master’s in Chemistry contains a free elective programme, you’ll get the possibility to gain expertise in your specific field of interest. This is a major advantage when looking for a job, not only because you’ll have the required practical experience, but also because you’ll already know your talents and ambitions.
