Presentación

The MSc Asset Management and Development is aimed at individuals with a background or qualification in Built Environment disciplines but who wish to develop their skill sets in property asset management and development. It has been accredited by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS).

The course will be of particular benefit if you are interested in entering the regeneration profession, while also providing the core skills needed by general practitioners. You will get involved in case studies and field trips that may include an international visit (for the past three years students have travelled to Shanghai, China), though you will be expected to make a financial contribution towards the cost of any international trip.

Your studies will equip you with desirable skills in the field of asset management, with a focus on the technical and cross-professional skills demanded by industry. Structured in accordance with the key competencies identified by RICS, this course combines theory with best practice to prepare you for the workplace..

Requisitos

Licenciado/Título de Ingeniero/Título de Arquitecto with an average of 6.0-6.9, Aprobado or above

English language qualifications:

GCSE pass in English at Grade C or above
IELTS with an average overall score 6.5 with at least a 5.5 in each component
TOEFL IBT minimum score 88
Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE): exams taken from January 2015 – overall score of 176 with at least 162 in each

component; exams taken before January 2015 – Grade C and no less than borderline in each skill
Trinity College English Language qualifications: ISE III Pass for postgraduate taught courses and research applications
City and Guild’s IESOL/ISESOL tests at expert and mastery levels (C2 and C1) for the majority of postgraduate

Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE Academic) with a minimum of 67 points in each elemen
Don’t worry if you do not meet these requirements, we run a number of courses to prepare you for academic studies.

Programa

You will study the following modules and a dissertation:

Research Methods and Professional Development
Urban Analysis
Commercial Valuation Theory and Practice
Property Asset Management
Commercial Property Law: Practice and Procedures
Environmental Management
Learning and teaching methods
You will be taught in a problem-based learning environment by research-active staff and through contributions from visiting research fellows.

The course is conducted and managed in thematic blocks, in which you will learn how best to address the complex and strategic issues encountered by construction and property professions in the built environment. Each block lasts eight weeks. Full-time students take two modules during each block, while part-time students take one module during each block.

On completion of this course, you will be able to progress to a career in commercial property valuation or planning and development, with particular expertise in regeneration.

There is a current skills shortage in Wales in the area of asset (real estate) development and valuation, with the Welsh Government’s Built Environment Strategy recognising the need for more qualified personnel, particularly in relation to regeneration.
