Part-time: 30 months / Full-time: 15 months / Full-time (fast track): 10 months / Full-time (with placement): Up to 24 months

A career in the accounting sector requires a high level of understanding of both the theory and practice of accounting and finance, and this specialist Masters´ degree is aimed towards partly qualified accountants who want to combine their practical experience with further academic training. The course will develop your knowledge to higher levels and is aligned to professional body qualifications. It part-prepares you for undertaking further professional examinations in accounting.

Taught by our highly qualified staff who have considerable experience of working in accounting and finance, this course will equip you with the skills necessary to gain high-level positions in the profession. There´s also the option of a placement in the third semester of the standard full-time route, further boosting your employability.


Applicants are normally students who have completed:

At least a 2.2 Honours degree in a relevant subject area (e.g. accounting or finance); or
Fundamentals Level (Knowledge and Skills) of the ACCA professional examinations; or
Completion of the Operational and Managerial levels of CIMA examinations; or
the equivalent professional accountancy qualifications of an overseas accountancy body.
We welcome qualifications from around the world. English language qualifications for international students: IELTS score of 6.5.
Accreditation of Prior Learning: Applicants who have passed ACCA Fundamentals Paper F 9 (Financial Management) may be eligible to claim exemption from the Corporate Financial Management module.

Applicants who have passed any of the following ACCA Professional Papers may be eligible to claim exemption from the equivalent course modules (up to a maximum of three modules) – P1 (Governance, Risk and Ethics), P2 (Corporate Reporting), P3 (Business Analysis) and P7 (Advanced Audit and Assurance).

Applicants may be required to attend for interview by the Course Director or Admissions Tutor.

Entry requirements for MSc Applied Accounting (Fast Track)

The Fast track route is available for fully qualified CCAB accountants (ACA, ACCA, CIPFA or CIMA). Other accountancy bodies will be considered on an individual basis.

Successful applicants will study two taught modules and complete a dissertation or business report.

Applicants may be required to attend for interview by the Course Director or Admissions Tutor.


You´ll benefit from a wide range of extra-curricular activities including Academic skills for Finance, Accounting and Governance and Research Techniques, a range of Bloomberg-based activities, specialist visitor speakers, and expert symposiums and conferences. You´ll take part in a residential weekend to discuss current events and specific problems affecting the accountancy field with academics and a visitor practitioner.

You´ll also have the option to undertake a work placement.

All modules are assessed by a mix of coursework, individual and group presentations and written exams. Atypical taught module involves a total of 200 study hours (52 contact hours and 148 group and private study hours).

The use of Bloomberg and Thomson-One Banker are embedded within modules.

Fast track route
You´ll study two taught modules and complete a dissertation. There is no placement option on the fast track route.

Graduates who possess a combination of an LSBU Masters degree and a professional accounting qualification are likely to be highly employable in senior positions in accounting and finance, not only in the UK but throughout the world.
