This specialist pathway in Visual Computing will provide you with comprehensive training in Computer Graphics, Computer Vision (including Medical Image Analysis), and Scientific Visualisation. On the course you will be provided with a unique opportunity to acquire essential skills in these subject areas that prepare you for further studies and research in academia or research and development in industry.
Visual computing has a wide range of applications, e.g. gaming, computer graphics, vision engineering, and biomedical engineering. Graduate career prospects are hence excellent.
The modules provide you with broad, in-depth technical knowledge and skills in terms of both theoretical understanding and practical experience of visual computing techniques, fundamental mathematical and algorithmic principles in those subject areas and the ability to plan and accomplish a substantial project in visual computing.
A 2:2 honours degree (or above) in Computer Science or other relevant discipline.
IELTS 6.0 (with a minimum of 5.5 in each component) or equivalent English test.
As a student on the MSc in Advanced Computer Science: Visual Computing you will study the following modules:
Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition (compulsory)
Data Visualisation (compulsory)
Research Methodology (compulsory)
Visual Computing Project Development (compulsory)
Graphics Processor Programming
High Performance Computing in C/C++
Interaction Technologies: Hardware and Devices
Interaction Technologies: Lab and Field Work
Interaction Technologies: Seminars and Readings
On top of the modules you study, you will undertake a substantial project and write a dissertation on one of the subject areas in Visual Computing, namely Computer Graphics, Computer Vision, Medical Imaging, and Scientific Visualisation.
All Computer Science courses will provide you the transferable skills and knowledge to help you take advantage of the excellent employment and career development prospects in an ever growing and changing computing and ICT industry.
90% of Swansea’s Computer Science graduates are in full-time employment or further study within six months of graduating (HESA June 2011).
