The course begins with theoretical classroom contact and simulation activities in the Clinical Skills Suite, followed by a supervised clinical placement designed to meet the HCPC return to practice requirements.
You will be assessed via a summative piece of work and a portfolio of learning activities and clinical competencies, informed by the HCPC Standards of Proficiency for Diagnostic Radiographers.

The course is available to any Diagnostic Radiographer (with either a DCR or BSc qualification) who has previously been registered with the HCPC but has not practised their profession for more than 2 years. It is also available to individuals who may have qualified as a Diagnostic Radiographer with a DCR or BSc qualification, but then did not practice or register with the HCPC post qualification.
You will need to have an occupational health review and advanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) clearance. Proof of UK Residency (to meet UKBA requirements) will be required.

The Return to Practice course consists of one 20 credit module at level 6.
The course content has been designed in accordance with HCPC guidance.
The theoretical content will include:
Professional regulation, applied law (including IR(ME)R and IRR99), contemporary health policy, patient safety and evidence base in relation to diagnostic radiography practice
Care and compassion skills related to all relevant areas of practice
Use of scenarios to embed adaptive technique skills and problem solving abilities
Current professional issues such as image commenting
Acting as agents for quality, innovation, and change in radiography practice.
Your clinical placement will give you the opportunity to consolidate and apply this knowledge, to enable you to re-establish clinical competency in a range of plain film radiographic techniques and diagnostic imaging procedures.
You will be required to meet the following outcomes to successfully complete the course:
Demonstrate proficiency in practice that addresses the Return to Practice requirements
Demonstrate the qualities of a safe, compassionate and competent practitioner who works within their sphere of clinical skills, knowledge and competence.
