The course is seven and a half days of theoretical classroom contact with a minimum 150 hours in the clinical placement environment over 24 weeks.
You will be assessed via a portfolio of reflective practice, which demonstrates your achievement of the underpinning skills and evidence-based knowledge required; there is also a practice assessment with a sign-off mentor or practice teacher. The NMC requirement is for a minimum of 150 hours’ supervised placement in clinical practice.


The programme is available to any nurse who has previously been registered with the NMC but is currently unable to comply with the practice standard requirement of working in a nursing capacity for 450 hours, in the three years prior to renewal of registration.
You will need to be submit to an occupational health review and an advanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) clearance.


The Return to Practice programme consists of one 24 week module.
The theoretical content will provide you with current evidence-based knowledge required from credible sources; National Services Frameworks, National Institute for Health and Care Excellence, and relevant statutes.
Your clinical placements will give you the opportunity to consolidate and apply this knowledge, to enable you to provide care in the best interests of the client group. The course content has been designed in accordance with Nursing and Midwifery council guidance.
You will be required to meet the following outcomes via a reflective portfolio of practice to successfully complete the course:
Demonstrate proficiency in practice that addresses the Return to Practice requirements
Demonstrate the qualities of a safe, reflexive, compassionate and competent practitioner who works within their sphere of clinical skills, knowledge and competence.
On-campus and distance learning modes are available, however the core content is the same whichever route you choose.

This course will thoroughly prepare you to confidently return to practice; enabling you to re-activate your NMC registration upon successful completion of the course.
You will also be awarded 20 credits at Level 6 which you can contribute towards your future professional studies.
