Presentación

This programme leads to Qualified Teacher Status. It equips you to teach pupils from 3-7 years and covers all areas of the Early Years Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1 curriculum, through lectures, seminars, workshops and tutorials. You´ll spend 24 weeks on school placements. This course provides an opportunity to gain 60 M Level credits and be awarded with a Post-Graduate Certificate of Education.

During the course you will undertake placements in at least two schools and have a specialised reading placement and a placement in an Alternative Educational Setting, allowing experience of working in the relevant age phases (Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1). Placement schools are chosen to provide different experiences including size, organisation and location.

A key element of the programme is to prepare you to work in multi-cultural, urban settings. In terms of school experience placements you will normally be required to do at least one practice in an inner or outer London state school.

Requisitos

You will need to demonstrate through the GTTR form and at interview that you:
•Have experience of and commitment to, working with learners in a formal or informal setting, and an appreciation of diversity and how equality is promoted through education.
•Have achieved a minimum of Grade C in the GCSE examinations in English, science and mathematics, or a standard equivalent to a GCSE. These will be accepted from www.equivalencytesting.com only
•Honours degree (minimum 2:2 or above) from a United Kingdom Higher Education Institution or an equivalent qualification from abroad (checked with NARIC www.naric.org.uk). It does not have to be a National Curriculum subject but you will require a positive academic or employer reference that highlights your suitability to become a teacher.
•In addition, it is desirable, although not essential, to have spent some time in a UK primary school and to have experience of the national curriculum.
•You will also need to submit a coherent written statement that demonstrates your commitment for teaching and learning. You should have the ability to reflect upon your personal experience of working with young or adult learners in a formal/informal setting; show an appreciation of diversity and how equality is promoted through education; and be able to demonstrate how your individual qualities and experiences would be an asset in a teaching/learning environment.
•All trainee teachers are required to pass an English and Mathematics skills test prior to beginning a PGCE course. If offered a place on the course, you will need to secure your place at LSBU by passing these tests as soon as possible after your interview. Alternatively, you can take your skills tests prior to interview, and we would strongly recommend you attending the interview day with these tests already passed, although this is not compulsory
